O.T. but Interesting Nonetheless

I always thought cerebral palsy was a birth defect, but I came across a site about cerebral palsy that talks about how it can be due to injury during birth. In my ten years as a daycare provider, I cared for kids with lots of different illnesses, but never cerebral palsy, so I never gave it much thought. I’m lucky to not have dealt with it firsthand in my children. And I’m not sure how I came to this site, but any way, there it is and pass it on if you know someone affected by this horrible syndrome.

I am blessed and humbled…….

I am overwhelmed by the kindness of the knitting, spinning and the art communities. I am humbled to be a part of you all and will be first in line to pay the kindness forward should someone else need it. You all have such a warm, wonderful place in my heart. I’ve bought thank you cards and as soon as I am settled, you can be sure they will be on their way.

If you’ve sent something paypal, please email me privately at dorene at gingerbreadhousestudio dot com with your address so I can thank you properly.

The insurance has settled and they were very fair. I want to go back to college, so I want my living expenses as low as possible. I decided to purchase a 16×80 manufactured home. It’s used- a repo, but very, very nice and leaves me only with utilities and lot rent plus my car. I just wish the weather would cooperate so we can get it set up. The home took most of the insurance settlement, but that’s o.k. We will get things slowly, and we’ve been graced with such wonderful in person and online friends who’ve helped tremendously. We’ll have all the necessities, and we will be home, together, and all safe.

To me, that’s the most important thing. I say a thank you each day that we left when we did, and took Maddie the nutty yorkie with us. If we hadn’t, I might not be here right now to thank all of you and Heaven. And if I hadn’t taken crazy Maddie, she certainly wouldn’t have made it through.

Yes, we lost a lot, but I’m seeing I have so much to be thankful for. Bless all of you, because thanks to you we have our necessities. I was also gifted with a new wheel. A big part of that thank you goes to my beautiful 15 year old daughter. Her cheer squad gave her gift cards, and she gave them to me on my birthday, which was five days after the world changed for me forever, and insisted I get a wheel because she knew how much spinning meant to me. Remind me of that if I complain about the teen years, o.k?

Still Kicking……

We’re waiting things out. Still at my dad’s house. I haven’t lived with my parent’s since I was 19. I won’t tell you how long that’s been. But it’s been a long time, I’m knocking on the door of a new decade…..I’ll give you that much. Normally mixing families in a situation like this doesn’t work. It’s hard to blend different lifestyles. Things have gone pretty smoothly, though. Although my daughter says one of my dad and mom’s dogs snores and wakes her up sometimes(heeheee).

I’m not good at waiting. I’m a planner and a list maker. And I don’t handle it well when life doesn’t move according to my plans. The plans were that we’d be in our new home by this past weekend. Nope, didn’t happen. What’s even more frustrating is that there is no new plan. I can’t make one. My life is in the hands of Indiana weather, trucking companies, and community managers. I. Don’t. Like. It. Not one bit. A bit OCD maybe? I might confess to it if you pushed me a bit. But then again, I’m pretty stubborn.

I’m off to do laundry while the washer is free. Boy, I love laundry. Then maybe I’ll spin some, depending on how I feel. Fibromyalgia doesn’t like snow any more than I do.

Popping in cause I can……

I’ve got a new wheel! I’m so excited and feel so much better now. Pics to follow. I’m spinning some Ashford roving because I don’t have any natural roving to dye and I don’t want to dye anything while I’m a guest here. And just when my etsy shop was taking off……..

I’ve been teasing my daughter today. She’s in beginning Spanish and loves to see if I remember any phrases from, oh, just a couple years ago. I loved Spanish and had a fun teacher. We cooked Spanish meals in class. Paella anyone?

On the needles: A pink pair of socks in sea wool, the first of a pair of fingerless gloves, a sweater that I’m not sure enough yarn survived the fire to finish, and a sock of panda wool almost done, but the other skein for the second sock burned. Looks like I have some internet shopping ahead of me!
