Congratulations to the Diva!!

My beautiful, talented, darling daughter, the Diva, tried out for cheerleading last night. She’s an eight grader, and tried out as an incoming freshman. She’s been a cheerleader both years in middle school, and is very dedicated to cheer and dance.  She’s danced and tumbled since she was four.

She not only made it, but she skipped the freshman squad all together and made JUNIOR VARSITY!!!!

To say I’m one proud busy momma is an understatement. She’s floating on air today and the phone has rang of the hook with congratulations from friends from her dance studio who  saw the postings at the high school.  She got lots of congrats and hugs at school today from her friends, and you can be sure she was smothered with it when she got home.  Of course there’s always the required attempt at bubble busting from the class queen bee who had to remind Diva that she, queenie bee, didn’t want to be on the JV squad, but she hasn’t let that little snark bug her. (phone just rang again!)

So here’s a big I luv ya Diva, and congrats on the huge acheivement!!

Virginia Tech

Mostly, I hurt.  I hurt as a mother for those parents who lost their child.  I hurt for the children who lost a parent.  And I hurt for the child who never got the help he needed, either from his own parents, the school system, the justice system, the health care system.  Somewhere, someone failed him.  And in return he failed society.  He devastated families, friends, officials, teachers, and bystanders all over the world.  So much hurt.  So much failure.

If I can be there for one child along this path I’m walking of childcare, foster parenting, and preschool education.  If I can not fail my own children, then I have lived a life worth while.  I grieve for those who lost their lives at VT.  I wish there were something I could do to ease this devastation for them.

This is it exactly……This is why I create

I know this essay is about spinning only, but it so eloquently puts the reasons I create all kinds of art and write in the perfect words, and why I love to pass that on to all the children that cross my doorstep.  Go read for yourself.
