Isn’t it great? I’ve been lusting after a drum carder since I started spinning with a spindle.
It’s attached to my kitchen table right now. Today was an art day, so you can also see a part of my easel in the background and some roving laying around. My scale is there, and off in the distance you can see the daycare high chair. This concludes our tour of the area around our kitchen table. Thanks so much for choosing Gingerbread House Sightseeing for your travel entertainment.

This is merino/silk 50/50 after two passes. The merino was pink and the silk natural. It’s starting to look like cotton candy, but still needs a couple more passes through the carder.
I hope my local fiber shop offers another color blending class soon. I’ve been researching online and reading as much as I can from books I have on hand. I’m also referring to my painting books on color mixing and color theory to see how it applies to blending colors in roving.
I have a batt right now on the wheel that’s a beautiful rasperry color with some natural silk/merino blended lightly in. I’m spinning it as thin as I can, to experiment with how it feels to spin with a drum carded batt and see how thin I can spin. I know I can spin sock weight 2 ply, so lets see how far I can push this. It drafts like a dream. I wish I’d been able to buy the carder sooner.
Little things like work, laundry, and the kids are really getting in the way of my play time right now. And there’s the small issue of packing and downsizing for this pesky move. It’s not fair, really. Not when all I want to do is play with my toys.
Keep passing the word around about the contest. I have handmade candles on hand. I’ll toss one in soon. I don’t have any soaps cured yet, though, so I can’t add one of those. The contest link is here.
