My Greencastle Fiber Event Swag!

It was a little chilly, but that didn’t stop me! Most of the booths are indoors anyway, right? I had the best time. It was so nice to get out and enjoy myself after all the stress from the previous months. I think it was bigger than last year, but my mind may be deceiving me. Here’s a quick pic of my swag:

Being the caring and generous blogger I am, let me give ya the breakdown.

First you’ll see that cone-shaped thing half covered in purple fiber. It’s a hat form. I’m making the difinitive witch hat. Why? You ask. Because, my blog lives in the Gingerbread House and who did those darlin’ little ones find there? A witch of course. The other two foam things are also hat forms, but of the normal kind. I love needle felting. Not pictured are various little jars of dye for my wool stash. The book is written by a yarn shop owner and is a mystery set in a yarn shop and the murder victim was killed by a set of size 19 addi turbos. If you’re gonna get offed by a set of knitting needles, it might as well be the best, right? I also scored some new felting needles, some colorful angelina to card into some fiber, and do you see that ball of fiber? It is heaven in roving form, I tell ya. Four ounces of merino, angora and silk. I don’t care who you are, that’s fiber porn right there. And the best thing about it? I scored it for only $10. Now, don’t you wish you’d gone? I’ll bet you do.

Felted Hat-Part Two

I’ve needle felted, wet finished, and added a wet felted flower that’s a silk/merino blend that I made.  All that’s left now is to do some beading on the flower for certain, and maybe on the hat.  I figure the beading will tack that floppy petal in place.

Photo credits once again to my 9yo son.  No one can shoot a styrofoam head like he can.

picture-005.jpg     This is the beginning of a needle felted hat.  I bought the form this past weekend at Sheep Street.  My 9yo son took the picture.  Sort of looks like a hot pink cake right now, doesn’t it?  I’ve never made a hat before, so if it turns out too bad, I won’t share the aftermath with you.  The wool is ends and pieces I’ve saved from spinning projects and dyed with Gaywool dyes.  I never throw any odd pieces of wool away, no matter how small or oddly shaped.  I’ve only drawn blood twice so far.  Yay me!

I’ve got this idea in my head for an art studio.  I have a nice sized storage building in my back yard.  It’s a fancy one-wooden, shingled roof, windows, electricity, a big workbench already build it.  It would need some insulation, and a sink, a way to heat and cool it.  But first I need to clean it out.

I’m going to be ruthless when I do and just haul it all off to the dump.  I need to find a truck, though.  My dad and brother both have new trucks without a truck bed liner so there’s no way they’d let me heave stuff into them.  Maybe I could get one of thos salvage guys I see around town to come pick up what I don’t want-the ones who sell or scrap out stuff.   But there’s always the issue of whether I can finish the inside out myself.  I’ll have to give this more thought and research.
